The future of architectural education

The future of architectural education

the ninth ARCHAOS forum, 'Learning Architecture' was held on the 3rd and 4th of November at Oxford Brookes University. The forum aimed to discover the views of students on the form their education takes and ended by producing the 'student directive' - fourteen points outlining what students believe should happen to their education.

The morning start on the Friday was bright and cheery, despite the exuberant socializing of the night before! Over 50 Students from 30 schools of architecture attended the forum and were joined by a number of people from RIBA, ARB and SCHOSA. After introductions smaller group discussions about the specifics of learning architecture took place 'The route to becoming an architect', 'What does an Architect need to know?', 'The Practical Stuff', 'Being a Student' and 'How we learn'

A day of intense discussion led to the production of a fourteen point 'Student Directive' which deals with several current student concerns, students' views on the structure of their courses, links between students and also the role of practice.
