London Biennale Update!

Sorry for the silence on this one, guys!

First of all, a big Thanks to all the September School participants. The amount of work achieved over that weekend was astronomical. We've had a brilliant response to the booklets, so much so that LAB have ordered more to be printed (theyíve sent them out to all of their high-profile '250 CLUB' architect-members) and will be putting up a downloadable PDF on the student biennale website when it's launched. Remember to include the LAB work you've done on your CVs- it will be familiar to many practices and uni's and may make your name stick out!

I can report that 12 schools have decided to work on installations for the Biennale, and chosen sites. Their first 'supercrit' is this afternoon (12th Dec) at Central St Martin's college in London - unfortunately I can't go, but I hope it goes well! Anyone who is involved, please post up some feedback on the forum if you get a chance.

In addition, two of the September School projects, Parliament Square 'Cabinet of Curiosities' and West Smithfield's 'spiral', are going ahead. This is due to the absolute commitment of the students involved- to the point that two of them have moved schools to complete their third year whilst making sure the intervention happens. So three cheers, guys!! And good luck.

Further archaos involvement is unconfirmed- after finding out the amount of work involved in organising and then publishing the September School work, the exec decided we couldn't commit to working on our own archaos installation, but instead would team up with other organisations to work on 'Live Build' events and workshops during the festival week (17th-26th June 2006). There are a couple of these in the pipeline at the moment, and we'd love you to join us for them:

1. 'get Down, cleanUP!' a full-day live-build event near the King's Cross Regeneration site, probably on Sunday 18th June, with Matthew Lloyd Architects, Price & Myers Engineers, and 'Guerilla Gardening'. Due to the nature of the project, exact plans are under wraps, but we'll be looking for students who want to join us for all or part of the day, so keep the date free if you can and we'll be in touch nearer the time.

2. Architects Sans Frontieres are also working on plans for a Live Build event, perhaps held over a few days in the week. This will have limited student places, and we'll let you know as soon as we have further details.

3. Apart from these two student-specific events, there will be several lectures, workshops and displays held over the Biennale week- the LAB website www.londonbiennale.org.uk) will have more info nearer the time- but book a trip to London in your diaries!
