ARCHAOS is running a 'Good Practices' campaign. This is an awareness campaign for students and practices to recognise and ensure that the minimum conditions as set out by ARCHAOS and RIBA in 2000 are met in ever office. We are currently working with RIBA Membership and are in talks with a few industry publications to see if they would provide media coverage for the campaign. We intend on hosting a fundraising social evening at a prime location in London in early 2006 once the campaign has been running for several months. This event will bring together students and professionals in a relaxed atmosphere, where students can meet future employers and professionals can meet future employees. We feel that it is more important than ever for students and professions to come together, with the recent reports on architecture profession as being out of touch and student fee crisis.
We are asking to students who have returned and/or been working in practices to get their practices to sign up onto our recommended practices list by contacting Bonnie Chu on bonnie@archaos.org. This compiled list will become a reference source for future students who are seeking placements and experience in offices throughout the UK.
If you have any questions or queries, please contact Bonnie Chu on bonnie@archaos.org.
We have now mailed a letter to almost every practice in the country inviting them to join the Good Practice Campaign and be listed on our Good Practice Campaign Register. If you have not yet received one, please accept our apologies, it is available to download here.
We are delighted that Jack Pringle, President of the RIBA has publicly leant the RIBA's support to archaos' Good Practice Campaign.
'As President of the RIBA, I am delighted to endorse ARCHAOS' Good Practice Campaign, and to support good employment practice for architecture students through the model contracts detailed on www.pedr.co.uk. I believe that promoting good working conditions for all of our members is an investment that will secure a strong and diverse future profession.
