THE IMAGE OF THE ARCHITECT

The (ideal) image of the architect is quite uncomplicated.

1. Male: Are we surprised that only 13% of UK architects are women when they do match this key criteria

2. Individual: All the glory (and shame) is identified with individual figureheads

3. Genius: You need this in order to solve the problems of society single-handedly

4. Hero: Well, the male-individual-genius is of course by definition a hero

So what strange fruits issue from these strange trees?

What a lot of people do not realise is that the Fountainhead is in fact a comedy, but they left out the canned laughter in the final edit
