BUT.....

These fixed Victorian values are no longer accepted by the contingent world we live in. An impossible gap opens up between the ideals that architects cling to, and the reality that these ideals find themselves deposited in. Disappointment is inevitable.

New spatial (for which read societal) conditions are arising

.....that demand a new type of architect

.....and this in turn demands a new type of education

 

The average architect in China produces 50,000 sq metres of buildings a year (versus around 1,000 sq metres in the UK).

Chinese architectural education is essentially based on Beaux Arts principles.
