comment: HSP are an excellent practice because they actually need their students. i was given a fair amount of responsibility, and as a result benefitted from close liason with senior architects, contractors, clients etc. the whole team is very friendly, and welcome new members as if into a family. the practice continually wins awards for its carefully crafted luxury homes and larger residential and commercial developments. i couldn't reccommend them highly enough to any student seeking good, solid experience of quality architecture.

type of work: Paul Davis + Partners is an award winning practice that undertakes macro to micro scale projects. Variety through national, international, conservation and new build work assures graduates the challenge of diversity. It is a culturally rich Practice with representation in its staff from fourteen countries.
PDP has a special interest in architectural education. In particular, there is a bursary scheme at Diploma level at the University of Nottingham and there are two Paul Davis + Partners awards at Part I and Part II level for the RIBA President's Medals. There is also a Part I group within the Practice that meets once a month to discuss experiences in an open forum and organises subsidised excursions to buildings of interest. For candidates leading up to Part 3, the Practice has a selection of projects on site locally that offer excellent contract experience. There is a support group in place, backed up by three partners who are professional examiners at Part 3. The topic-based seminars and study sessions around past papers ensure an excellent success rate in professional examinations.
As Part Is we have found PDP to be welcoming and friendly. The Practice encourages integration with all members of staff by social and extra curricular activities such as office drinks every Friday, yoga classes, golf and football to name a few. The recently refurbished offices help create a communal working environment. PDP has been supportive of our Part I development and we highly recommend the practice.

type of work: UL Architects is unique - the only RIBA practice wholly owned by a university. Since its establishment in 2001, UL Architects has worked primarily for its owners, but has recently diversified its client portfolio to include external commissions. The practice has won widespread recognition and a fast-growing number of industry awards, both for new builds and for sensitive yet dynamic restorations.
comment: I began working for UL architects 3 years ago. For the first year this was part time as during this period I was also studying full time for my Part 2. The subsequent 2 years of full time work were especially helpful for my understanding of an actual architectural practice. UL architects have been supportive and encouraging of my desire to come to grips with all aspects of the practice providing me with a wide range of experience within the field and enabling me to work, with varying degrees of autonomy, on several extremely interesting architectural projects.
